Aberdeen Foyer receives donation to fuel Nightstop Community Hosting Initiative

Nightstop North-East Scotland, a community hosting initiative from Aberdeen Foyer are grateful for generous fundraisers at Cults Parish Church and St. Fittick’s Rotary Club. Their donation will help young people using the service while Nighstop are still actively recruiting Hosts.

The money donated has been put towards a ‘young person’s backpack’ which contains, pyjamas, a toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo and a power bank. These backpacks will be given to young people who use the Nightstop service to help their few nights at a Host’s house.

Nightstop Co-ordinator, Megan Douglas (pictured) said:

“We’ve been extremely lucky with the response to Nightstop Hosting so far. Nightstop runs safely and successfully across the country through homelessness charity Depaul UK, and we’re taking a brilliant model that already works and using it in the North-East to prevent youth homelessness at the earliest possible opportunity.”

The service is actively recruiting Hosts in Aberdeen and in the Shire. Megan says everyone’s Hosting journey starts with a simple question:

“Do you have a spare room?’ If the answer is yes, then you’re welcome along to an online information evening to find out more.  The young people we support are low risk. We offer a £15 stipend per night to Hosts and there’s 24/7 on-call support during the stay.”

Nightstop supports young people from 16-25, offering short-term accommodation until a move-on-plan is established, this might be to offer respite and support the young person to get back home or it might be working towards the young person gaining their own tenancy.
